As his words
illustrate, Aldo Luongo is as much a pragmatist as a romantic, an artist
who in his own words is "a part of this earth; not cosmic - not
guided to paint by some power, but a person of the age in which I
live."
Born in Argentina
on January 31, 1941, in Buenos Aires, of Italian parents, Luongo's goal
was to follow in his father's footsteps to become a professional soccer
player. This ambition having been realized, was short lived due to
an injury.
Fortunately, at
the age of 14 Luongo had entered The Academy Of Fine Arts and subsequently
received his degree. Luongo began to paint professionally at the age
of 27 while on a trip to Italy, creating 30 originals later displayed in
his first one-man show in Los Angeles.
His influences are
"Monet for his pastels, Toulouse-Lautrec for his drawing technique
combined with the strength of Van Gogh, would be my idea of the perfect
Luongo." Luongo's paintings are a unique blend of the sensual
with the cerebral, thus they appeal to a broad audience.
His work has been
collected by such stars as Cary Grant, Yul Brynner, Anthony Quinn and
Dionne Warwick, to name a few.
Aldo Luongo's
painting is Aldo Luongo's life. His paintings comprise vignettes,
episodes of the good life, or as he says, "they could be 10 seconds
of any person's life."
