Leo Jay Leo Jay was born in 1949 in Southern California. At the age of 6 a barnyard painting of his was chosen for the Los Angeles County Fair where it won a blue ribbon. At age 7 he was expelled from school for wanting to paint -- all day. In the mid '60's he was impressed by works by Roy Lichtenstein, James Rosenquist, Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg, Giocometti and Andy Warhol. He felt the artwork was unique in its creative rebellion with/against the established art forms. Attending one of the California State Universities Leo Jay found he could be free in his artistic expression, creating "Docu-Pop" (the creation of a life story through the mixing of a series of documents and visuals that follow an individual through their lives, i.e. birth certificate, chewed up tax form and a draft notice with a dart stuck in it). He studied under such artists as Janet Turner, Marion Epting and Paul Feldhaus. Leo's works can be found in collections in Japan and the United States, and has been featured Phantasm. We are proud to announce the Leo Jay Can Series. The Can Series consists of a series of signed and numbered limited edition giclees featuring Leo Jay's signature soup can in a humorous homage to famous and infamous artists of the world. The total edition size on each image is 240, and each piece is 3 1/2" X 3". If you would like more information, please click here
